Prayer
Because the primary goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together?
Opening Question
Who is the most generous person you know?
Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.– Luke 12:27-34
They’ve never thought about it
Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
– Matthew 22:37
When did you first begin considering financially supporting your local church?
How has your understanding of generosity helped you connect with God?
They’ve never taken time to make a plan
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
– Philippians 2:12
When do you take time to make a financial giving plan?
How has the spiritual practice of generosity grown your Christian character and connection to God?
They have a theology that allows them not to give
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
– Matthew 6:21
What scriptures or teachings have shaped your theology of generosity and giving?
What do you love most about being part of Mosaic?
How has (or how could) giving your money made space for you to love Mosaic more?
They don’t think their church needs it
What ministries or services helped you choose to be a part of Mosaic? Have you ever considered the financial costs associated with that ministry or service?
Take a few minutes to dream as a group, what do you imagine we could do as a church with greater giving and resources?
Closing Thought
You can give without loving. But you cannot love without giving.
– Amy Carmichael
Spend the final moments of your time together praying for God to grow our hearts to love our church through our generosity.
