Formed For More

Did you know you were formed for more?

In the fall of last year, almost halfway through her junior year of high school, my daughter made a decision that surprised everyone and changed the trajectory of her high school journey. She decided to try a brand-new sport: wrestling.

She was already an athlete – disciplined and committed to her running program in cross country and track – but she knew absolutely nothing about wrestling. No techniques. No rules. No understanding of how points were scored, how penalties worked, or what it would take to compete.

What she did know was a little about herself and her God-given strengths. She knew she wasn’t afraid of getting it wrong before she got it right. She knew her work ethic. She knew how to train. And she knew she wasn’t stepping out alone because she had the support of me and her dad, her running coach, and what would soon become her wrestling coaches.

So despite all the unknowns, she stepped out, tried out, and made the JV wrestling team.

Fast forward three months (aka just this week)…she placed 3rd at regionals and is now heading to the state competition on the varsity team! With training, learning, and a willingness to be coached, she finished her first wrestling season far beyond anything we could have imagined. And now, whether we planned to become one or not, we’re officially a girls’ wrestling family. Who knew? Not us, that’s for sure!

But what has stood out to me most in this season isn’t just the outcome of success – though I’m incredibly proud of her. What has stood out is her formation. Watching her become a wrestler has been fascinating. Her decision to step out, to learn, to submit herself to a new way of training, and to be shaped over time formed her for more than she initially imagined.

And it made me ask some honest questions of myself:

Do I unintentionally dampen what God could do in my life by not stepping out into new ways of learning, growing, and being formed?

Do I truly believe that I am formed for more? Do you?

Because as followers of Jesus, we are formed to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love others as ourselves, formation is never meant to stay internal. What God does in us is meant to move through us.

That’s where this story connects to something bigger.

Scripture tells us we are called to make disciples of Jesus Christ. And that is the same heart behind the Mosaic Church “Be 1 of the 100” initiative, which is our prayerful goal of equipping and empowering one hundred new Mosaic Church community group leaders by the end of 2026.

This initiative isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about being willing to be formed, to learn, to grow, and to say yes to stepping out and serving others while being supported every step of the way.

And we’re already seeing fruit.

So far, sixty people have signed up for the Mosaic Communities Leader Development Course, and just this past week we launched our first new community group leader of 2026: Phillip Haun. (Click here to see more and if you see Phillip around, congratulate him!)

One person stepped out.

One leader is being formed for more than he could imagine.

The impact of this kind of formation goes far beyond any athletic achievement. Because when someone allows themselves to be shaped into a Mosaic Communities leader, they are making space for more discipleship to happen and those ripple effects can be eternal: someone encountering Jesus for the first time; someone learning how to pray; someone opening their first Bible; someone finding a life-giving community when they need it most.

That invitation to be formed for more is for you, too.

If you’re curious about what it looks like to lead a community group at Mosaic, we’d love for you to join us at an upcoming Be 1 of the 100 Interest Meeting. It’s a one-hour, low-pressure space to ask questions, hear stories, and explore whether this might be your next step.

Already ready to take the next step? We’re also preparing to launch our next Mosaic Communities Leader Development Course. This is a four-week deep dive into intentional, holistic discipleship through the lens of a small group with training, support, and coaching all included.

You don’t have to know everything to begin. You just have to be willing to be formed for more.

With immense gratitude and hopeful expectation of what God can do,

Cori Sullivan
