What is Be One of the 100?

If you were present on Sunday, you heard the vision cast for something called “Be One of the 100.”

What is that?

If you weren’t there, “Be One of the 100” is an exciting new initiative at Mosaic Church to help us more meaningfully live out our mission statement in a focused way. Our mission statement reads:

Mosaic Church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ through the core values of worship, community, and mission in a multiethnic, multigenerational context.

The first and foremost call of any Christ-centered church or ministry is to help form people as followers of Jesus, full stop.

Mosaic has important values and a crucial context, which we painstakingly labor towards. But all of it must be contextualized (that is, taking into account time in history, language, geographical location) around being a mathetēs, a student of Jesus.

The point is, before values and context comes the end goal: Christian discipleship–and one of the primary ways that Christ is formed in the Christian believer is through smaller, highly relational settings, or as we call them: community groups.

Be One of the 100 is a call/faith goal/initiative to see 100 new community group leaders raised up over 2026.

In putting this ask out there, we are affirming a few things:

  • we believe in the valuable ministry of every member!
  • we believe there really are people waiting to be developed to lead in this way
  • we believe that people are developed most by doing ministry
  • we know there are many new people here, looking for connection and belonging.

So, if that’s what it is, what is “Be One of the 100” not?

  • It’s not a church growth campaign. It is a people growth initiative.
  • It’s not a spiritual pyramid scheme of some sort. It is a leadership development call.
  • It’s not an elevation of some at the expense of others. It is simply making space to make disciples!

If you are interested in hearing more about what being one of the 100 would look like for you, given where you are in life, we have two interest meetings scheduled for the rest of the year (you only need to attend one or the other, they are identical).

You can sign up here, and join the 18 respondents from last Sunday. That is a tremendous start, and we are trusting God to see so many people grow in new ways over the course of the next year.

Can’t wait to see what God has in store for us (and you)! I hope your heart leaps at the thought of more Christians released in ministry, more disciples made, and more relationships made for the glory of God in our city.

I know mine does.

Morgan Stephens, DMin
Lead Pastor

P.S. Don’t forget the time change coming up this weekend. I know your smartphone will remember, even if you don’t.

P.P.S. The first Sunday in November is my favorite Sunday of the year, after Easter. If you’re new, you’re about to find out why!
