| You may have noticed the new billboard…about something called “Pentecost.” You may have noticed the communication around this Sunday…about Pentecost. You may recall Pentecost last year, in 2025 (if you were there for it!). You may have at least a couple questions about all of this: What in the world is Pentecost? Pentecost was a harvest festival celebrated by the Jewish people in the Old Testament, and was also the day on which the church of Jesus was “born” in Acts 2. That’s what it is, so why all the fuss? 5 reasons: 1. Pentecost marks the coming of the Holy Spirit into the church. 2. Pentecost tells us something about how we ought to live now. 3. Pentecost demonstrates that the Christian faith is not based around one culture. 4. Pentecost shows us that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are needed for Christian mission. 5. Pentecost reminds us that God loves the nations. To that end, we will be celebrating Pentecost this coming Sunday with a special call to worship (go ahead and be on time, you’ll be glad you were!), a choir, and a great look at what God is doing among the nations through our global spiritual family, Every Nation. We will also be praying for Mission 2029, a special church planting initiative that Every Nation is leaning into together, and we have a small gift for everyone who attends in person to help them believe God for great things around the world. Please feel free to wear your culture’s native attire and come ready to celebrate the amazing diversity God has given our local church! Morgan Stephens, DMin Lead Pastor P.S. Like you heard last Sunday, we have nominated 6 new elder candidates: Alvin Brown, Dave DeStefano, Colby May, Brett Millican, Tina Miranda, and Rosalynn Smith. If you have any concerns about these candidates that would prevent them from serving in this capacity, you can email them here to our current elder team over the next 30 days. Please note, this is not a popularity contest or a vote, a la American Idol! We are hoping all 6 nominees will be confirmed on June 28. |
