| Colin and Kayla are beloved members here at Mosaic, and we asked them to share briefly about their journey towards becoming community group leaders. Colin also kills it on electric guitar on Sundays, and Kayla co-leads our counseling team! Enjoy. – Morgan Stephens, Lead Pastor Ever since we became members at Mosaic, we’ve thought about what it would look like to become community group leaders. This is a role we filled a number of years ago, and we found a great deal of joy serving in that capacity as hosts and leaders. For one reason or another, we convinced ourselves that it wasn’t the right time or we weren’t ready for that level of responsibility again. But as soon as we heard the announcement for Be 1 of the 100, we both felt that little nudge telling us it was our chance to say “yes” to what God was calling us to. We consider ourselves relational people, but like many, we struggle to find natural ways to develop authentic relationships and build community. Making connections with people through common interests can be fun and rewarding, but these surface-level connections aren’t always enough to form the deep roots that an authentic and sustainable community requires. Intentionality is key, and should be built into the very framework of your relationships. We believe that Mosaic Communities are the perfect foundation on which to build thoughtful, intentional groups that will offer meaningful community. We are so excited to step into this role and all of the challenges and blessings it will bring. Being a leader for a community group will allow us to be truly present with others—in grief or celebration, need or prosperity, lostness, emptiness, joy, sorrow, or whatever else comes. Through Mosaic’s mission to make disciples of Jesus in a multiethnic, multigenerational context, we look forward to coming alongside a diverse group of believers who seek to learn, grow, and serve together. Through our marriage, we hope that we can be an example to couples, singles, and families in our church who are struggling. Through an outward expression of love for our city and our neighbors, we hope that we can invite others into worship with us. Our experience with the Mosaic Communities Leader Development Course has brought us a great sense of peace that we are not alone, and are equipped to do this task. We strongly believe that the staff and pastors at Mosaic aren’t just sending us out and wishing us luck, but are coming alongside us to guide, serve, and empower us to do the work effectively. We aren’t expected to be the perfect friends, mentors, and theologians. We just need to come to our group with an open heart and ears to listen, and allow the Spirit to work through us. If you hear that voice telling you now is the time, we encourage you to not be quick to shut it out. It might be God telling you to Be One of the 100 with us.
